Future ideas and direction | postmortem thoughts


In this blog, I want to briefly give everyone an idea of where my head is about the project so far. 

Thoughts

As of now, it is a simple jam game with a limited scope. All you can do now is get a high score and kill off 2 different types of enemies. Very basic. I have been mulling over the depth that I want the game to get into. I think I just want to aim for about 15 total minutes of gameplay (without dying) and a killer boss at the end. Maybe throw in a couple of story elements to make it feel like a more "complete" project.

Updates

I have already decided that I will probably expand the road to cover about 1/4 to 1/3 of the screen at the bottom. Since this is mainly the only area used in most shumps anyway this should be acceptable for movability and strategy. I will dampen the learning curve as well. So here is my shortlist so far:

  • Expand player area
  • Add 3-4 new enemy types
  • Balance difficulty
  • Add story
  • 1 badass boss

I think adding these elements to it could easily expand it to a 15-minutes or so of total gameplay.

Keep checking in and I will keep this project updated. Thinking about entering it in the Game off 2020 game jam as well, since I started this project in November anyway I can fit it to be a contender in that jam as well possibly. hm...
